QR Code Song Requests: A DJ Setup Guide
Let guests request songs from their phones. Follow this QR code setup checklist, reuse the request-sign wording, and test the guest experience before your event.
What a Song Request QR Code Does
A QR code opens a song request page in a guest's browser. In Requestify, each event has its own QR code and shareable link. Guests use the page to search for a song and send a request; the DJ reviews requests in a live dashboard. Guests need an internet connection, but they do not need to download an app.
Receiving a request does not automatically play music. The DJ still chooses the track, version, and moment. Song search helps guests identify tracks; it does not put an audio file into your DJ software or replace your music library.
Set Up and Test Your Event
- Create the event. Create your DJ account, then add your event in the dashboard. Use a recognizable event name and check its date and location.
- Choose your event colors. Pick colors that fit the event and keep the request instructions easy to read. Review any do-not-play decisions with the client before doors open.
- Get the QR code and link. Open the event details page and use its QR code print view. Keep the event link as a second way for guests to join.
- Test as a guest. Scan the printed code with a phone, confirm it opens the correct event, and submit one test request. Check that it reaches the DJ queue. Test using the venue's Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- Practice the DJ controls. Review the queue, check request counts, and mark your test song as played. Confirm your event blacklist before the performance.
Print a Sign Guests Can Actually Use
Keep the QR code square, high contrast, and surrounded by blank space. Avoid putting a logo over it or stretching it to fit a layout. A small test print is more useful than choosing a size by guesswork: scan it from the distance and under the lighting guests will use.
- Put a short heading above the code: “Request a song.”
- Place signs where guests can pause and scan, such as tables or a welcome area, with the venue's permission.
- Include the event link below the code for anyone who cannot scan it.
- Keep a spare copy and confirm the event is active before the audience arrives.

Scan the QR code, find your song, and send your request. No app download needed.
Requests are suggestions. The DJ will choose what fits the event and the moment; a request does not guarantee a play.

Keep Requests Useful During the Set
Tell guests how requests work early, then check the queue between transitions. Request counts can help you spot shared preferences, while marking songs as played helps you track your set. A popular request still needs to fit the client's brief, your music library, and the room.
If you enable tips, keep them optional and separate from promises to play a song. Requestify supports configured payment links and card tips through Stripe. Tipping setup and payment-provider availability should be checked before the gig.
If a Guest Cannot Scan or Submit
- The camera does not recognize the code: try a flat print, better lighting, more contrast, and more blank space around it.
- The wrong event opens: replace old signs and use the QR code from the current event details page.
- The page will not load: check connectivity and try the direct event link. QR requests are an online workflow; keep a simple verbal or paper fallback for an outage.
- The request is missing: check that the event is active, submit a fresh test request, and review the correct DJ event page.
