How to Collect Requests Without Killing the Dancefloor

Requests are a gift when they help you read the room, and a curse when they derail your flow. The key is setting expectations early and giving guests a structured way to ask.
- Gate the requests: A QR code and a short “we’ll do our best” note keeps people from camping at the booth. 2) Categorize: Must-plays, nice-to-plays, and vetoes. 3) Timing: Batch lower-energy tracks for cocktail hour or dinner; keep peak time sacred. 4) Communicate: A polite “I’ve got you in 2-3 songs” reduces repeat visits.
Pro move: Pre-event, ask the couple for their “three sacred songs” and “three absolutely nots.” It makes decisions easy when the 10th person asks for the same track.
